How to Get to Nassau Bahamas

Nassau is one of the easiest Bahamian destinations to reach. Most major US airlines and several European carriers offer scheduled service. Air/hotel-inclusive package vacations are available from a number of major tour operators, and several cruise lines include Nassau in their three- , four- and seven-day itineraries.

By Air
Options are extensive. Direct flights on major US carriers are available from Atlanta, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Miami, New York, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Tampa and West Palm Beach, with connecting flights to and from most major mainland gateways. From Europe, flights are available from London and Paris, and from other gateways in Germany, Spain and Italy. (Some, however, may require US connections in Miami, New York or Atlanta.) Fares fluctuate depending on the time of year. From Atlanta, it’s possible to buy a round-trip ticket for as little $200, the same from Miami and New York. From London and Europe, the fares vary according to the carrier and, in many cases, a diverse assortment of package operators.

Package Vacations
Most package operators prefer that you book vacations through a travel agent. The theory is that they have less trouble dealing with an agent, with whom they will build a long-term relationship. Many, though, will deal with you directly, though only on-line. This being so, most operators prefer not to publish their phone numbers. In the At a Glance section at the back of the book you’ll find listings for package operators, along with websites. Those that do offer on-line booking will often have discounted rates and seasonal specials.
Package options to Nassau and New Providence Island are varied. Most major airline vacation departments, and literally dozens of independent tour operators, can provide packages to over a dozen major hotels on Cable Beach and Paradise Island, from two days to as long as you like.

Delta Vacations: Air/hotel-inclusive packages from Atlanta with connections from most major US cities. Hotels include Sandals Royal Bahamian, Radisson Cable Beach, Marriott Cable Beach Resort & Crystal Palace Casino, Nassau Beach Resort, Breezes Bahamas, British Colonial Beach Resort. On Paradise Island: Bay View Village, Comfort Suites Paradise Island, Atlantis - Paradise Island, Paradise Beach Resort, Radisson Grand Resort - Paradise Island, and the Ocean Club. At the low end, the British Colonial Beach Resort is a good choice; for those with a bigger budget, the Ocean Club is the ultimate choice, closely followed by Atlantis. Rates, depending on the season, start at $550 for three nights from Atlanta. www.deltavacations.com/ourpicks/all_inclusive.asp

American FlyAAWay Vacations: Air/hotel-inclusive packages from Miami with connections from most other major US cities. Their packages include all the hotel options as listed for Delta. Rates start around $450 for three nights from Miami. www.aavacations.com.

USAir Vacations: The same options as Delta and American, but the gateway is Charlotte, North Carolina. Rates are about the same. www.usairwaysvacations.com.

Vacation Express: An independent tour operator offering the same options as the major airlines. However, customers can choose their air carrier and, thus, are able to shop for the best rates. Packages often can run a little less than those of the major carriers. However, gateway options and availablity may be limited. www.vacation-express.com.

Travel Impressions: A subsidiary of American Express offering the same options, restrictions and advantages as Vacation Express. Travel Impressions is the only operator other than American Airlines FlyAAway Vacations that offers an extensive array of vacations to the Out Islands. These include trips to Abaco, Eleuthera, Harbour Island, the Exumas, and Long Island. www.travelimpressions.com.
