Three Days of Water Fun, Nassau, Bahamas

Three Days of Water Fun in Nassau/Paradise Island
By Christina Solstadt

Day 1: Atlantis, Paradise Island
Atlantis Paradise IslandPlaying in the bath-like aquamarine water of the Bahamas is a must. Who wouldn’t love to swim inside what seems like an endless aquarium full of fish, or to swim with the fun-loving dolphins? Or to stand mesmerized as sharks, rays, and fish alike swim within inches of you? If you have three days on Paradise Island, you can do all this, and not break the bank. Read on, and I’ll tell you the best ways to do just that.

The beach at Atlantis on Paradise Island is rated one of the world’s top 10, and you can visit for free. Not only that, you can spend a full day enjoying all of the rest of the Atlantis facilities and it won’t cost you a penny, even if you don’t stay at the Atlantis Resort itself. What great value for money, especially if you’re on a tight budget. To access this great free ride, so to speak, just book your stay at the Comfort Suites, located right next door to the resort on Paradise Island. Spend your vacation at the Comfort Suites and you get full access to all of the amazing Atlantis facilities, but at less than half the cost. You can walk almost everywhere. Be sure to ask for a room in the newer part of the hotel, away from the construction. Continental breakfast is included.  242-363-3680.

Make all your reservations before you arrive, as these trips can sell out, and you don’t want to be disappointed. Each one is well worth the money.

Day 2. Dolphin Encounter/Swim
On Blue Lagoon Island, this is only a 30-minute ride away. The Encounter is sure to warm your heart as you experience the kiss, hug, and dance with a bottlenose dolphin from a three-foot-deep platform. If available, definitely go for the Swim, where you also get in the deep water with the dolphins and have them push you, for a thrilling ride through the water. Either way, you’ll be grinning from ear to ear. 242-363-1003.

Day 3. Stuart Cove’s Snorkel Bahamas
Morning or afternoon, this is a great deal for $52. If you want to snorkel out on the reefs, this is the outfit to go with. Stuart Cove developed a reputation in 1977 for competent underwater support on the Bond film, For Your Eyes Only. Mask, snorkel, and fins are provided, and those new to snorkeling are provided extra care and attention. The captain selects three appealing snorkel sites for each trip. You may stop at Propeller Reef, the sandy site of the sunken plane from Jaws, with a reef nearby filled with parrotfish, angel fish, sergeant majors, snappers, and others. Schoolhouse Reef boasts plenty of coral reef heads teeming with life. Try simply floating above one of the coral heads and watching quietly. The third site makes your heart skip a beat as you watch six-foot Caribbean reef sharks feeding just below. Be sure you bring a towel and sweatshirt to keep you warm. A complimentary bus picks you up and returns you to your hotel.  242-362-4171.
